I also prefer letting some large cubes melt. It does open up new flavors. But I just imagined freezing a handful of old teeth and using that as a frozen source....
@bartender what's your email addy?
I have never had the Reservoir, though I am familiar with it. Is it the Bourbon, the Wheat Whiskey, or their Rye Whiskey that you tried?
Also, I see the conversation below about the ice. I too am a fan of the melting of real ice, especially in any whiskey (whisky). I do however appreciate the novelty of those metal cubes. I am sure they serve their purpose AND they are certainly a conversation piece!
@Bartender the whiskey is Reservoir. Have you tried it
I'm with you Tedvilla, I like a little water too. Especially when they are interesting cubes. These are good and interesting. The hosts of the party had opened a bottle of really nice whiskey and they had these cubes for everyone. They kept the drink cold for the 15 mins it took me to finish it. I found them on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005OQYPRO?ie=UTF8&tag=wwwthisweek03-20&linkCode=shr&camp=213733&creative=393177&creativeASIN=B005OQYPRO&qid=1357531633&sr=8-5&keywords=metal+ice+cubes
@forrestfrazier i need to get some of those big cube trays. Cold and the melt are important. Stone cubes dont provide either.
@tedvilla I was wondering the same thing. I've seen the stones never these metal cubes but I've always been curious about them. I tend to use the large 2.5 inch ice cubes because they keep everything cold and allow for a very slow melt.
Whats your opinion on the metal cubes? Ive got stone cubes. They are made of soap stone and dont scratch the glass. But im not really a fan. I like the cube to melt. It cuts the drink and mellows it and the water helps it open up. The stone cubes,and im betting the metal cubes, dont offer this transformative aspect. also, i didnt find the stones made that much of an impact in terms of cooling the drink. On a related note, i also never freeze my booze. Some melting is expected in mixing and it helps to improve the flavor, I think.
Nice ice! What is your whiskey of choice?
