Mint Julep

Ingredients needed to make a Mint Julep

1 packet, cube or teaspoon of brown, raw or white sugar
7 Mint Leaves
Plenty of Crushed Ice
Mint Sprig Garnish

Mint Julep Cocktail Recipe Directions

I tend to muddle a packet or 2 of "sugar in the raw" with plenty of mint leaves. I like my mint drinks minty. I then add in the bourbon (in this case Maker's Mark), stir more to dissolve sugar, add plenty of crushed ice and top off with some fresh spring water and stir. Its a refreshing drink at the Kentucky Derby, as the hot sun melts the ice, your drink remains cool and you get to enjoy every last sip by time the race ends in 2 minutes. Figure, 1 hour from the time you get it, get seated watch the race and leave the track.

JRCXNY's Notes

Many ways to make/serve this but its fairly simple. I don't like it in a metal cup, but it helps keep it cooler. This cup is a replica from the 1950s. The originals were colored from the inside and outside, these, the outside only. Who else remembers them from our parent's days of cocktails?
